Over MLK day weekend, my family and I were lucky enough to be hosted by Winter Park resort,
as part of a group effort from Colorado
Ski Country USA
to show off how families can have fun at resorts all over Colorado.

From the get-go I was honest with them about my lack-luster skiing abilities. I mean, seriously – have you SEEN the Terror On The Mountain video? Grace, agility + snow are not words meant to be in my vocabulary. (continue reading…)

Some Pro Tips…

by Colorado Blogger on Jan.27, 2010, under General, Insider Secrets

There is new snow in Colorado Ski Country USA – lots of it. The SIA trade show and the World’s Largest Apres Ski and Ride Party take place this week. And, there is still a week left in January Learn to Ski and Ride month. The stars could not be in any straighter alignment for honing your on snow skills.

We asked our resident ski technique guru, and Colorado Ski Country USA’s 2009 Ski Instructor of the Year, from Winter Park, Julie Pierce, to pull to together a little cheat sheet of ski tips. Below, Julie has outlined several bits of advice for beginners, what to do when skiing bumps and what do to in powder (will come in handy this week).

World’s Largest Aprés Ski + Ride Party

by Jennifer on Jan.25, 2010, under Colorado Events, General

DIA’s got the red-eyed, blue mustang. The Convention Center has the big, blue grizzly. The World’s Largest Apres Ski and Ride Party has this; a giant, blue, fuzzy, ermine-looking thing. But the apres ermine can dance. And he can hand out information about the World’s Largest Apres Ski and Ride Party, which is exactly what he was doing in downtown Denver recently.

Open to both SIA Snow Show attendees and Denver locals, the World’s Largest Apres Ski and Ride Party is this week, January 28-30, 2010.

Rollin’ Out The White Carpet

by Jennifer on Jan.21, 2010, under General

Rollin’ Out The White Carpet This is big people. We’ve been working on this event for months. It all has to do with the SIA trade show coming to Denver next week. The two most important things you need to know about are the World’s Largest Apres Ski and Ride Party (in partnership with Visit Denver) and the fact that our members are giving trade show attendees free and discounted skiing and riding.COski-GW-POW

New Schools

by Jennifer on Jan.20, 2010, under General

New Schools It’s National Safety Awareness Week but it’s also Learn to Ski and Ride month here in Colorado. When people think about learning to ski and ride their first thought is ski school. When people think about ski school their first thought is kids. Colorado Ski Country resorts are like the Ivy League of ski schools, we’re talking upper class, distinguished curriculum, the finest ski school education taught by the most sought after instructors, and, they offer scholarships. Safety Matters

Safety Matters

This week is National Safety Awareness Week. Now before you yawn and click the Back button just hold on a second. Think about it. All the things you love about skiing and riding, and life itself, can go away very very quickly if you are not safe while on the slopes. Or worse, you can take them away from someone else, because it’s not just how those you are sharing the slopes with behave; it’s about how you behave. It pays to share safety. Ski it forward if you will. Get that safety karma thing going. Believe me; you don’t want to have to learn the hard way. (photo by Casey Day: Copper Mountain)

2010 Goals Post

by Jennifer on Jan.14, 2010, under Colorado Events, General

I know we’re already deep into the first month of 2010, but I’ve been thinking a lot about my resolutions for the year, starting with being more prompt with deadlines. But a year is a long time and I work better under pressure, so I’ve shortened the time frame from a year to just the end of the ski season. I also don’t like the idea of resolutions, so I’ve changed them into goals. And because during the winter most of what I do has to do with skiing, I made it even easier on myself and kept my goals to skiing and riding. (photo: Telluride_Casey Day) Following is the short list, the long one I’m still compiling, but without a deadline it may never be finished. Telluride_CaseyDay (continue reading…)
