Good for the Soul

by Jennifer on Feb.26, 2010, under General

From Denver, a day trip to SolVista is SoEasy. And when you hit it on a powder day like we did, it is SnowNice. Just a short drive down the valley from its neighbors Winter Park and Mary Jane, SolVista is a happy little place for kids and families, kind of like a winterized Romper Room. IMG_0023

A Platinum Gem

by Jennifer on Feb.19, 2010, under General

Monarch is celebrating its 70th anniversary this season and we arrived on a sunny morning after several days of fresh snowfall. While this was my third visit to Monarch, I had never actually skied the lift served terrain but had only skied the backcountry terrain accessed by Monarch Snowcat Tours. So with the kids in tow we set off to explore the all natural snow on the lift served runs that have been enjoyed by many skiers and riders for more than 70 years.IMG_0008 (continue reading…)

The Extremes, The Double Greens, The Butte

by Jennifer on Feb.17, 2010, under General

With weather forecasters calling for snow in the mountains and a three day weekend ahead that included Valentine’s Day, we packed up the family truckster and headed to Crested Butte. Plus, I needed to check out the new stuff at Crested Butte like the totally renovated Ice Bar and new Kids Adventure Center.

Looking for Snow? Visit the Wolf Creek Ski Area + Enter to Win 4 Passes!

by Mommy Blogger on Feb.13, 2010, under General

I skipped into the kitchen singing, “We’re going on a ski trip, thanks to Colorado Ski Country USA.” When my three boys and my husband, Wade, asked where we were going, I told them that we were going to the Wolf Creek Ski Area, a high alpine ski resort that rises up from its 10,300 foot base. A place that proudly boasts 465 natural inches of snowfall a year, the highest snowfall in Colorado.

My excitement began to wane and my concern began to grow when Wade began to map out the arduous route to southwestern Colorado and said, “You’ll probably be sleeping the entire time anyway. Don’t get me wrong, I have always wanted to ski Wolf Creek and am up for the powder skiing if you are, I am just gearing myself up for what is ahead, my little Mommy Blogging Travel Writer.”

The ski trip was fantastic. We’ve done quite a few day-ski-trips in the last few years, but this was the first time we actually stayed at the ski resort and made a vacation of it. Here are the highlights:

Tackling the Slopes with Outriggers, Bibs and Sit-Skis

by Jennifer on Feb.09, 2010, under General

Even though Learn to Ski & Ride month is officially over, here in Colorado Ski Country USA, we feel that every month is Learn to Ski & Ride month. (You can put that in needlepoint if you like.) This week we focus on the world of adaptive skiing. Many Ski Country resorts offer programs and lessons for adaptive skiers of all ages, and Winter Park is actually home of the National Sports Center for the Disabled.

Crested Butte is one resort that offers an adaptive sports program and to get some tips on successfully navigating terrain, as well as ways to have an enjoyable outing on the slopes, we tapped an expert and professional out of Crested Butte’s Adaptive Sports Center, Ann Papenfuss.

Putting Guest Service to the Test

by Jennifer on Feb.08, 2010, under General

I skied at Arapahoe Basin and Buttermilk this weekend and got first hand experience of the over-the-top guest service at our resorts here in Colorado Ski Country USA. I also learned that those years of college recreation might be starting to catch up with me as I can’t seem to remember anything anymore. Luckily, I’m willing to take one for the team so folks can learn from my mistakes. (Photo: Arapahoe Basin_Casey Day)
