Crested Butte has a reputation for steep, challenging terrain, plentiful snow, and a down-home atmosphere that core skiers love. But I wouldn’t know, because I can’t seem to bring myself to actually go skiing.
To celebrate winter, Durango Mountain Resort and Backcountry Experience are hosting Winterfest — a festival full of winter fun! Winterfest is your chance to try out ice climbing, dog sledding, snowshoeing, Nordic skiing and more on Sat., Jan. 14 and Sun., Jan. 15 at Durango Mountain Resort. Created by the winter-fun experts at Backcountry Experience, Winterfest is the perfect opportunity for the whole family to participate in these and many other winter sports and activities at low or no cost.

We’ve watch the Winter X Games on TV for years. Generally, the shots of the crowd made us think that while our kids would love seeing the events live, they were too young and we were too old.
I mean, do you ever see anyone who is not 20-something and gorgeous in the ESPN feed? Would a family feel comfortable at this event?
In a word: Yes.
Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) announces that is has brought back its most popular and least expensive package deal of the season. $599 Fly, Ski and Stay includes a roundtrip flight into Gunnison/Crested Butte Regional airport (GUC) on American Airlines, three days of skiing or riding at CBMR and a four-night stay at The Grand Lodge. Or choose to stay ski-in/ski-out at the Elevation Hotel & Spa for $699 per person. In previous years, the package has only been available in January for this price point, however this season the resort is able to offer $599 Fly, Ski and Stay until April 2, 2012.
Has anyone else noticed the weather here in Colorado? We’re not worried, we’re Coloradans. We KNOW it’s going to snow. It always does. To help usher in some fresh storms, Colorado Ski Country USA (CSCUSA) is doing its best to rally the snow gods. From snow dances to sacrificial ski burns to planking, CSCUSA is working to get the attention of Mother Nature and Old Man Winter.
Steamboat announced a new ski and ride program specifically for the January Learn to Ski & Ride month entitled, Complete 3, partnering with regional resorts Eldora Mountain Resort and Powderhorn Mountain Resort in Colorado and Snowy Range in Wyoming.
Powderhorn Mountain Resort has some good snow and the resort would like to share the snow with others by offering $35.00 mid-week (Monday-Friday) lift tickets to anyone who has a 2011-12 Season Pass from any resort during the month of January.
