As we were gearing up for yet another winter storm warning here in the Denver metro area (really? REALLY?!), Colorado ski areas have had a veritable snow shortage this season.
In spite of these less than stellar conditions, we were determined to make a family trip to the slopes this year. Ski Cooper graciously hosted our family for two days and showed us exactly why families ought to put this mountain at the top of their list of top ski destinations for next season.
Scheneetag, the last official Aspen/Snowmass event of the 2011-2012 season, is scheduled for Saturday, April 14 at Snowmass Mountain. It was originally scheduled for Sunday, April 15 at Aspen Mountain.
Schneetag, Saturday, April 14 at Snowmass – 1:30 – 3 p.m.
This hilarious event is one not to miss. The 5th annual Schneetag event (pronounced Sch-knee Tog) invites teams of four to create a craft that they will pilot down a slope by Spider Sabich Race Arena at the base of the superpipe on Snowmass and attempt to float across a 40×100 foot pond. Every team has a theme and will perform a skit before they descend. This event is just as ridiculous and entertaining as it sounds. Each team is judged based on creativity, skit performance, craft construction and success in riding the course. Prizes will include a trip to the ESPN Summer X Games in Los Angeles, tickets to Rock Jam in Grand Junction and tickets to a Colorado Rockies game in Denver. Visit www.aspensnowmass.com/schneetag for more info. For the video from last year’s event, visit http://ow.ly/a3PP7.
