With high hopes of securing a spot at the 2013 World’s Championship Chili Cookoff in Palm Springs, California, close to 20 well-known connoisseurs of chili will be at Winter Park Resort this weekend, August 24 and 25, cooking up their most impressive recipes at the High Altitude Flamethrower’s Chili Festival.
Judges will determine winners in three categories; Red Chili, Green Chili and Salsa, who will then advance to the World’s Championships, while visitors will be able to taste each entry in order to crown a People’s Choice winner and Grand Country Champion. To spice up the competition a bit, Jon Jepson, 2011 Red Chili World Champion, will be competing at Winter Park Resort for another shot at the title.
Guests can satisfy their chili cravings from noon-3:30 p.m. both days while supplies last. Tasting tickets go on sale at 11 a.m. and can be purchased for just 50 cents per ticket. For every $5 spent in tickets, guests get a special commemorative wooden coin that they can use to vote for their favorite recipe. Proceeds from the weekend will benefit the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD).
Entries are still being accepted at www.chilicookoff.com or www.winterparkresort.com.
Summer lodging is available at 30% off a 1-night stay or more. Please call 866.239.3994 or book online at www.winterparkresort.com.
