Hi, it is Little Lightning here again and I am so excited because I had my first awesome day of skiing with the 5th grade passport program! My Dad and I went last weekend to A-Basin and had a wonderful day! I will definitely be going back to ski there again soon.
Arapahoe Basin, or A-Basin for short as it is known to the locals, was the first resort to open this season. It was also the first place I ever skied back when I was 3 years old. Some of you may wonder why people call Arapahoe Basin “the Legend”. I was told that people in the old days would say the skiing was legendary and so that is how the phrase came to life.
Not all the trails were open at A-Basin last weekend and that didn’t matter because we were still able to ski Lenawee Face, Dercums Gulch, Ramrod, High Noon, and my Dad’s favorite green trail in the whole wide world, Sundance. It was a really nice day, and the customer service was amazing. We were warmly welcomed by Arapahoe Basin staff from the parking lot, guest services, lifties, ski patrol and the workers in the lodges.
Now for the delicious food! You can get breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Lunch is 10:30 until 3:00 p.m. You can eat at the Black Mountain Lodge, which is half way up the mountain, and Legends Cafe which is the classic old lodge at the bottom of the mountain. I ate breakfast in the Legends Cafe and had french toast. The best was the hot chocolate MMMM good! For Lunch my Dad and I ate at the Black Mountain Lodge and we split the BBQ platter. It filled both of us up and was so delicious.
Mark your calendars for December 1st-20th because at A-Basin all kids 14 and under ski free. Don’t forget to find out about the spring and summer events as well. If you go and look up the A-Basin website on the internet you should try and find Al’s blog, written by chief operating officer Alan Henceroth. There you will find the latest events, ski conditions, and all the inside info on what is happening at Arapahoe Basin.
